Showoff. Is there a popular culture reference here that I’m missing?

Did they ever find that umbrella? Where was it? Exactly where someone left it?

So it that 8 minutes 11 seconds late? Or 11 minutes late at 8:11?
Also, revised June 1991. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Well, that’s far outside my personal cultural frame of reference.

I always claimed my tardiness was due to “severe flatulence.”

A woman my wife used to work with was quite late one day (hours) because her cat threw up. Not that her cat was sick, throwing up, and had to be brought to the vet. Not that the cat threw up all over the house, and it took hours to clean up. Just, “my cat threw up.” Hours. Late.
My wife was like, “umm I got up, worked out, showered, made a fire in the woodstove, made lunches for myself and both kids, had breakfast with my husband, helped the kids out of bed, got dressed for work, then drove 50 miles here in the snow and I was on time, so....”

I was only late to high school once. I had gym 1st period, and class was outside, so I just joined class late in my street clothes. When coach asked me why I was 20 minutes late, I told him the truth, “Bob’s POS Jeep broke down at the auto parts store. It took us a while to get it started.”
Coach just shrugged and said, “Ok, just get on out there.”
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

In my junior year I used to ditch class frequently, followed by a forged note excusing the absence. I didn’t like having those notes in my record, so the next year I volunteered to work in the attendance office. Easy access to the files meant that the evidence conveniently disappeared.
Never let students have access to important files...

I was late to high school as often as possible.
